Multi-Currency Payouts & Automatic FX Conversion
Multi-Currency Payouts & Automatic FX Conversion
I’d like Dodo Payments to add a multi-currency payout and automatic FX conversion feature for merchants receiving payments globally.
The problem
When a merchant receives payments in different currencies, managing withdrawals can become complicated. Merchants may receive USD, EUR, GBP, ZAR, and other currencies but have customers, expenses, or bank accounts in different countries.
Proposed solution
Allow merchants to choose which currency they want to receive their payout in when requesting a withdrawal.
For example:
- Customer pays in USD → merchant can withdraw in USD, EUR, GBP, ZAR, etc.
- Customer pays in EUR → merchant can withdraw in EUR, USD, GBP, ZAR, etc.
- The merchant selects their desired payout currency.
- Dodo automatically converts the funds using a transparent FX rate and clearly displays the conversion amount and applicable FX fee before the payout is confirmed.
Ideally, merchants could also configure a default payout currency so that incoming funds are automatically converted when necessary.
Why this matters
This would make Dodo Payments significantly easier to use for global SaaS companies and online businesses that sell to customers across multiple countries.
It would also complement features such as:
Adaptive Currency — Show prices in the customer's local currency.
Adaptive Currency Fees Inclusive — Absorb FX fees instead of passing them directly to the customer.
Together, these would create a much smoother global payments experience:
Customer's local currency → Dodo processes the payment → Merchant chooses their preferred payout currency → Dodo handles the FX conversion → Merchant receives the payout.
Example
A SaaS company based in South Africa receives:
- $500 USD from a US customer
- €300 from a European customer
- £200 from a UK customer
Instead of having to manage multiple currencies separately, the merchant could request a payout in ZAR, and Dodo would automatically convert the available balance into ZAR and pay it out to the merchant's bank account.
This would make Dodo much more attractive to international SaaS founders and businesses operating across multiple markets.
Additional idea
If possible, merchants should be able to hold multiple currency balances and choose whether to:
1. Hold the original currency
2. Convert immediately
3. Convert only when requesting a payout
4. Automatically convert to a selected default currency
I believe this could become a major advantage for Dodo Payments as more SaaS businesses sell globally.
