Checkout: wallet-first layout, collapsible card form, and optional-field labelling

Requested by SAJU-K (DG Intelligence), a low-priced one-time AI digital service selling in JPY and USD. The case applies broadly to low-ticket digital content, one-off AI services and guest checkout, where form friction before payment drives abandonment.

Four related checkout improvements:

1. Show eligible express wallets at the top

Apple Pay and Google Pay should appear above the card form, particularly on mobile, so wallet users can authorise immediately rather than scrolling past a card form.

2. Keep card fields collapsed until Card is selected

Card number, expiry, CVC and cardholder name should only expand after the customer explicitly chooses Card. Today the full card form is visible by default, which makes a small purchase look heavier than it is.

3. Label optional postal codes clearly, in the checkout language

Where a country and payment method combination does not require a postal code, the field should read as optional in the selected language, for example "郵便番号(任意)" in Japanese. The merchant observed in a Japan Google Pay sandbox preview that Pay Now became enabled with the postal code blank, but the field carried no optional label. Where a postal code is genuinely required, the required label should stay.

4. Make the Full Name field optional, and label it accordingly

Customers should be able to leave Full Name blank, especially on wallet payments. Where a processor genuinely requires a name, take it from the wallet where supported, or request it only for that method.

Current state

None of these are controllable through checkout session configuration. The available options cover language, theme, order detail visibility, discount code visibility, phone and tax ID collection, and which address fields are editable. Nothing controls payment method ordering, card form presentation, field labelling, or whether Full Name is required.

Merchant's note

They are not asking to bypass tax, fraud checks or authentication, and accept that an email may still be required. Their priority is making wallets prominent and removing unnecessary mandatory inputs.
